Oracle Team USA’s AC50 Touched Water In Bermuda

Oracle team USA for America’s cup sailed their new boat christened ‘17’ touched the water for the first time in Bermuda.

After the training session, the skipper Jimmy Spithill said that the team had a successful day and the first impressions of the boat were very good and everyone in the team is happy with it.

On its first sail, the team completed the preliminary performances and the necessary safety tests taking four hours. The skipper added that they had an extended training session on the first sail. According to Jimmy Spithill, it was the perfect day for the first sail with 10-12 knots. The team was able to make full advantage of the condition and work out all the tactics.

It took the effort of 15 designers and more than 50 boat builders to design and construct ‘17’. 85,000 man hours were needed to build the boat. The in-house team was supported by partners like Oracle, BMW, Parker, Airbus, and Yanmar in providing technical expertise. (more…)

New Zealand Yachting Funds Increased

It is expected that Yachting New Zealand will regain its position and will be sent back in form soon.

It seems like Yachting New Zealand will uphold the momentum that it achieved at Rio Olympics and have a good chance of repeating things. Reason for this is increasing in funding of Yachting from (HPSNZ) High Performance Sport New Zealand. Yes, HPNZ has increased the funding of club considering its performance and need.

From this Olympic cycle Yachting will get 15.1 million NZD dollar from HPSNZ, the funding will remain continue for four years. Yachting, used to receive 12.45 million dollar, NZD from HPSNZ till the last Olympic cycle. But, considering the need of game the core funding of the game has been increased. (more…)

SCYA, the place where women learn

The Southern California Yachting Association would hold its twenty-seventh Annual Women’s Sailing Convention on Saturday, 6th February, 2016 at Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, California.

The ladies-only, daylong series of shore-and-boat-based workshops offer starters to experts welcoming surroundings to learn more regarding all topics sailing. Boat Owners Association of The United States has been the primary sponsor of the event since its introduction.
Attendees select combo workshops in regions that best fits their ability and interest, and top women sailors from all across the Southern California, many of whom are USCG Licensed Captains, present thirty topics.
Workshops include: Welcome Aboard (for beginners), Going Up the Mast, Diesels, Introduction to Racing, Tactics, Overboard Procedures, Docking, Suddenly Singlehanded Interactive, Sail Trim, Weather, Basic Navigation, DIY Canvas Projects, Maintenance Mania, How to Heave a Line, Hassel-Free Heads, Spinnaker Rigging, Nighttime Sailing & Navigation, Offshore Cruising, as well as Introduction to Sailing. The Race Starts workshop will be hosted in Harbor 20’s thanks to help of the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club.
